The Sixth Motion

AH!

rocks cry out

Leaves and stars scream

The deafening din of all design

shouts of contrast, pattern, rhyme

depth and breadth and width and time

storms and seas and vast expanse

beasts and seasons. Songs and plants

An endless, undulating dance

A HOLY HOLY HOLY noise

taken altogether – VOICE!

Too terrible to hear, and then

Amazingly, some comprehend

With grateful eyes for bounded scope

We take our small circumference in

Five senses make our hearts explode!

Any more would be our end

Unruly din of dear design

A tumult, clamor, ruckus wild

Hammering and drawing back

In waves of unrelenting might

Proclaiming I! and I! and I!

Until our minds, Creation’s own

Gray witness to this awesome play

Recorders of the cavalcade

Can only render, lost in words

Worship from the ancient earth

for never-ending wonders wrought -

five motions of the hand of God.
